Buy SSL CertificateWhat is SSL?

A Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is a security protocol for establishing an encrypted connection between a server and a client. Example: A Web server and a Web browser; a mail server and a mail client.

What is an SSL Certificate?

  • The SSL protocol helps all Web browsers to interact with secured servers. However, the Web server and the Web browser need an SSL certificate to establish a secure connection.
  • The certificate encrypts any data being transmitted via the Web. It is extremely useful for websites, blogs sites, and personal webpages.

How Does the Certificate Work?

  • Transmitting your login data over an unsecured connection can be very easily intercepted and compromised. SSL certificate encrypts the login information before transmitting the same to your Internet Service Provider(ISP)/ server making it difficult for hackers to infiltrate.
  • This is precisely why financial institutions and e-commerce websites use an SSL certificate for a secure login, user identity information, and credit/debit card data.

Purchasing an SSL Certificate

  • SSL certificates are provided by various Certificate Authorities (CA). There are four steps in buying and installing an SSL certificate.
  • First, select the CA from whom and the type of SSL certificate you want to buy. Sign up with the CA. Details including name, home/company address, phone number, and email address are mandatory. Once the signup process is complete, the CA will send a mail with a verification code to your email address.
  • After you enter the verification code, you will be directed to the payment page. Once the payment is done, you will get a confirmation mail in less than 10 minutes with a link to installing the certificate. Remember, this email holds good for only 24 hours from the time it was sent to your mail account.

Gentle Reminder

Before you buy an SSL certificate, go through the SSL reviews given on various sites. Depending on which CA has received the most positive SSL Reviews, you can opt for the same.
